1.    Problem Definition

Following the completion of the first phase 5-day face to face programme, which held in Muscat, after forming Future OPWP 2017 group. The second phase 90-day long distance learning mode just started, currently the team is assessed on Bruce Tuckman 4 stage model in order to identify which stage the group currently is operating in and which leadership style will fit to develop the team.

2.    Identify the Feasible Alternative

The 4-stage model Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing is published by Dr. Bruce Tuckman, then he added another stage called Adjourning. In order to be an effective manager, you should assess your team and see in which stage they fall. Beginning with a directing style, moving through coaching, then participating, finishing delegating and almost detached. At the end, the team will be able to produce a leader that can develop a new team.

1.    Development of the Outcome for Alternative

Future OPWP 2017 group should answers all the 32 questions survey containing statements of teamwork. The scale is defined from 1 to 5 and each team Member scores each of the 32 questions using the following scale:

The result show us, the Future OPWP 2017 team is in performing stage based on a highest score of 31. It is because, the team is from the same company and used to work together, each one of us is familiar with other member behavior which reflect the definition of performing stage, collaboration in which member demonstrate support for each other.
If it is measured in leadership style then it will be one of the four behaviors (telling, selling, participating and delegating). Based on the result of Bruce Tuckman, the Future OPWP 2017 group, is in delegating style.
3.    Selection of the Preferred Alternative
The preferred alternative is Norming as it is ranked second with the score 30. the preferred leadership style for Norming stage is participating.
4.     Performance Monitoring and the Post Evaluation of Result
It is recommended to repeat the survey after 9 weeks or later to compare the result.

Comments

  1. Very interesting analysis, Eman!!! You followed our 7 step process very well and you met the TECHNICAL specifications by providing at least 3 references to support your analysis.

You probably should consider doing this again in 4 pr 5 weeks to see just just how accurate you were in your assessment. Another idea is to use this assessment on your own teams at work just to see where they are. IF you get stuck for a blog topic in any week administer this to your real team at work and see where they fit in. That almost always proves to be an interesting blog topic.

From this point on, you are free to pick any topic you wish, and show us how you are taking the tools/techniques you are learning in the PMBOK Guide or other references and are using them to generate a favorable Return on your Training Investment that OPWP is making in you.
