W1_Nasser_ Tuckman Analysis Assessment
Problem Definition:
After completing the
Phase One of the PMP Prep Course which, the 5 days Face to Face class held
by Dr. Paul Giammalvo from 29th Nov-17 to 3rd Nov-17
in Radisson Blu Hotel located in the capital of Sultanate of Oman (Muscat), the
2nd Phase, Distance Learning Mode (DLM), as scheduled has
just been started for our new teem named as “Future OPWP 2017” team.
The 1st assignment for the Future OPWP 2017 team members
is to collectively assess, analyze and understand in what stage the team is
currently in to identify what leadership styles to be adapted using (Bruce
Tuckman Model) as a tool.
Identify the
Feasible Alternative
In 1965, Bruce Tuckman, an educational psychologist developed one of the
most influential models for group formation. Based on his observations and study
of group behaviors in different settings, he came up with a model representing
the different phases groups need to go through to grow as a team.
The model initially consisted of following four distinct stages of group
formation:
1.
Forming
2.
Storming
3.
Norming
4.
Performing.
Later, a fifth stage was added, called ‘adjourning’ or ‘mourning’.
They represent the necessary and inevitable stages from facing challenges,
tackling problems, finding solutions and planning work to ultimately delivering
results as a firm team.

Development of the
Outcome for Alternative
A 32 questions survey consisting of statements about teamwork,
developed by Donald Clark has been individually filled by the Future OPWP 2017
team (vide table 1). The scoring scale is from 1 to 5 and each team Member
scores each of the 32 questions using the following scale:
Table 1. Future OPWP 2017 team members total scores for the 32
questions survey
Each member of the team scored each of 32 questions using the
following 5 scoring scales:
1.
Almost Never
2.
Seldom
3.
Occasionally
4.
Frequently
5.

Selection Criteria
After the completion
of survey questions on 5th Nov 2017 afternoon, the following ranked results
were found as summarized in Table 2 below:

from the above results,
we conclude that the Future OPWP team is in its early Performing stage.
Analysis and
Comparison of the Alternative
Referring to the figures of facts shown in Table 2, the difference
between the average scores for both Norming and Performing stages is just 1.
This indicates that the team is advanced stages and the reason for this might
be that all team members are working in the same company and have already
worked together.
It is concluded that the team is in the Performing stage since the
highest score is (31) locates in Performing stage.
Compiling between (Figure 1. Tukman Model) and (Table 2. Survey
Results), we can derive that leadership style falls under Performing stage and the
team is:
1.
Working with almost clear vision and towards defined propose
2.
Focusing on goal achievement
3.
Starting delegation and trusting
4.
empowering behaviors
5.
Controlling and monitoring
6.
Setting aside time for planning and engaging the team
7.
Allowing for the transfer of leadership
Performance
Monitoring and the Post Evaluation of Result
For the propose of monitoring the performance, from time to time, it
is preferable to perform the same exercise at 2 differing times during the coming
weeks of the DLM Phase to monitor again the maturity of the team and verifying
that the above results are at least fairly TRUE and REALASTIC.

Good work Nasser!!! You followed our 7 step process very well and you met the TECHNICAL specifications by providing at least 3 references to support your analysis.
ReplyDeleteThe only "bad news" is your did not use APA style for your references. It is not an issue right now but when you go to write your paper, learning how to use the automated citation generators will save you a lot of time and wasted effort. Go HERE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2sPC8zFsl8 and HERE https://www.citefast.com/?s=APA
From this point on, you are free to pick any topic you wish, and show us how you are taking the tools/techniques you are learning in the PMBOK Guide or other references and are using them to generate a favorable Return on your Training Investment that OPWP is making in you.
